Hello Mr. Lazy,

Happy Election Night to you! Despite what you think, I am not lazing about my condo. In fact, I just sat down on my couch to get a break from this mess:

The painting of my new condo has been an epic project spanning hours and weeks of time. Who knew painting was so time-consuming? It has almost taken as much time as this US election!

Go Obama!

♥ – Miss Giggles

PS – CNN just projected Utah will go to Obama. Somehow I don’t think Obama will be crying over that one.

Hello Miss Giggles!

While you are lazing around your new condo, I am hard at work at the library.

You are lucky you are at home and get to watch the coverage of the US Election tonight. Do you know who I am voting for? Here is a hint:

In case you couldn’t figure it out, that is Obama reading Where the Wild Things Are. I don’t think Romney cares as much about picture books as Obama does. I have a pretty nuanced understanding of US politics, I think.

Right now I am eating the leftovers from a surprise dinner I made on Saturday. Maybe I will post about it sometime!

Signing off,
Mr. Lazy

It does not look like a spooky Halloween in Calgary, but it is a pretty rainy and dark Halloween here!

I did miss you! While I am not too lazy to blog, I have been very busy with packing and moving, and furniture shopping and painting, and making home decor and reno decisions. Maybe this blog can feature
some of my projects as they develop!

I have been so busy, in fact, that I got Jian Ghomeshi’s book out from the library, and it sat on my new (and beautiful) kitchen counter for three weeks before it was due to be returned without me having even looked at it! And, it’s a bestseller! How sad.

I guess I’ll have to read this book instead:

Hmm. Somehow I think Arnold is better in TV interviews than in print. We shall see.

Spookily signing off,

Miss Giggles

Hello Mr. Lazy,

That orzo salad looked delicious! If I cooked, I would be tempted to make it myself. Since I don’t, though, I will just have to hope that one day you will make it for me!

Mrs. Obama wrote a book that you should get out from the library.

20120618-203224.jpg

It is called American Grown, and it is about the garden that Mrs. Obama started on the South Lawn of the White House. It has lots of pictures, and recipes, and stories about how their garden was planned and how those plans changed as they became better gardeners. It was inspiring – I do recommend it!

Too bad I do not have land or even a sunny exposure to start my own garden. I guess I will just have to settle for the neat piles of vegetables at the supermarket.

PS – I have started working on my vacation wardrobe! So far, I have a straw fedora and nail polish called watermelon!

Mr. Lazy,

Where have you been? I can only assume that you have been busy planning your itinerary for the Calgary Stampede (otherwise known as the Greatest Show on Earth)!

The Globe & Mail has also caught Stampede fever, as evidenced by the front page of the travel section today.

20120609-152003.jpg

From this article, I learned that – as of last year – cowgirls are now allowed to tuck their skinny jeans into their cowboy boots. So keep that in mind, Mr. Lazy, when you are planning your Stampede wardrobe.

I have not been to anything nearly as exciting as Stampede preparations. I have, though, been reading this (mostly picture) book about Whitney Houston.

I’m guessing the proof-reading budget was very low at this publishing house, because it contained this hilarious misprint:

I am no history buff, but I am almost certain that Whitney did not sing the anthem at the Superbowl during WWI. I am pretty sure that was Christina Aguilera.

Get those tickets for the chuck-wagon race!

Good Evening Mr. Lazy,

You are a lucky person today because I have a great music suggestion for you! After a very long time waiting, I picked up this CD from the library tonight:

20120531-212721.jpg

Because the silly library stickers covered it up, I’ll have to tell you what it is: it is an album called Row Upon Row of the People They Know, and it is the second album by a band called The Once. You must listen to it! The Once are from Newfoundland, and everyone knows they are the most musical province in Canada.

My favourite song (right now) is called My Husband’s Got No Courage, but the whole album is excellent. I am going to buy their first album off iTunes this weekend.

Also, I came across this album that you might be interested in. It is by Jill Barber, who is so talented that you might assume she is from Newfoundland, but you would be wrong (she is from Ontario, but lived a long time in Nova Scotia).

You are lucky I’ve been acting as a music scout for you!

Miss Giggles,

While you were busy going to the office on a Saturday, I was hosting an Edible Books event at the library!

My contribution to the day was based on If You Give A Mouse A Cookie:

20120414-202642.jpg

Making a giant mouse out of dozens of cookies is exhausting and very time consuming. But everyone enjoyed eating the cookies.

20120414-202749.jpg

The winning edible book was Anne of Green Bagels. It was excellent.

Edible Books was exhausting, so now I am going to sit around being lazy.

Good night!

Hello Mr. Lazy,

How are you? Your carrot cake looked very good! You are welcome to send me some any time you like.

Things are looking brighter in TO because the libraries are going to open tomorrow! Wheeee :) Very good news!

After work today, I wandered along Queen West, where I went to Romni Wools, but they didn’t have what I needed. That’s annoying when they’ve got this much stock:

I also went to The Paper Place, which had so many beautiful things. They also had a window display for a kids’ collage contest they had:

I wish they had an adults’ contest!

I also bought a cupcake from D’Lish.. The cupcake trend is still strong in TO. I must have passed at least three other cupcake joints on my walk. I had a maple walnut cupcake, and it was nowhere near as good as the maple bacon donuts we had last week at Jelly Modern Donuts. Those were so good that maybe I should look into becoming a franchisee!

OK, Mr. Lazy, I’ve got to go — the figure skating world championships are on! Here’s one more picture from Hogtown:

TTYS!

Hello Mr. Lazy,

After a very fun Cowtown vacation, I am back to reality. I picked a lousy time to return: it is too hot, and the libraries are shut (and I have six holds to pick up!).

I do appreciate the book recommendations though! I have put holds on almost all of them (except Billy Bob’s book – he is a weirdo). Keep them coming!

As you know, I saw my fifth movie last week with you: Jeff, Who Lives at Home. As you said, it was OK, but could have been funnier. The post-Oscar movies are not too interesting-looking, unfortunately.

Another piece of bad news is that the One Book, One Toronto pick is a weird one. I am not too much of a fan of reading about the symptoms of a strange illness, and photographs of surgeries, and organs and things. So I am giving it up!

Instead I’ve decided to read this literary challenge:

20120320-185411.jpg

Maybe Sophie Kinsella will improve these post-vacation doldrums!

Keep truckin’,

Miss Giggles
