Did you read the Walrus article about Kraft dinner? It was about how KD is our national dish.
Do you remember I told you about the fancy surprise meal I made a couple of weeks ago? It was slightly classier than Kraft Dinner.
For the appetizer, I served mango butternut squash soup that I bought from a farmer’s market. Then for the entrée, I made a mushroom, spinach and onion tart.
I got the recipe from Martha Stewart. It was surprisingly easy. The base of the tart was phyllo pastry, which is a thin, flaky pastry that is delicious. The tart also had crumbled goat cheese on it, which made it especially tasty.
I will have to get to work on the meal plan for my Hogtown visit!

Happy Election Night to you! Despite what you think, I am not lazing about my condo. In fact, I just sat down on my couch to get a break from this mess:
The painting of my new condo has been an epic project spanning hours and weeks of time. Who knew painting was so time-consuming? It has almost taken as much time as this US election!

You are lucky you are at home and get to watch the coverage of the US Election tonight. Do you know who I am voting for? Here is a hint:
In case you couldn’t figure it out, that is Obama reading Where the Wild Things Are. I don’t think Romney cares as much about picture books as Obama does. I have a pretty nuanced understanding of US politics, I think.
Right now I am eating the leftovers from a surprise dinner I made on Saturday. Maybe I will post about it sometime!

How was your weekend? Mine was alright, but you might just have well called me Miss Lazy this weekend, because I pretty much accomplished nothing except reading these magazines:
About the only other thing I did was make a visit to Rona, where I learned how surprisingly affordable new toilets are.
Who knew? That might be a good fact to keep in mind in case one of your bean burrito nights goes awry, and you’d rather avoid the messy clean-up. (Hahaha – Miss Giggles is hilarious).
Don’t worry – I will go back to being industrious tomorrow.

Hello Miss Giggles!
Yesterday I made a delicious dinner. I used this Portobello Mushroom and Zucchini Tacos recipe from Martha Stewart.
First you roast the mushrooms, zucchini, and some onions.
Then you stick it in a taco with Monterey Jack cheese! It is a very simple recipe, but dee-licious.
You might have noticed I have broadened my cheese horizons lately (I made those stuffed peppers with feta cheese), and it has really paid off. Feel free to sign me up for a Cheese of the Month Club for Christmas.
I hope you are enjoying Arnold’s book! I am reading The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling. It is not great literature, but it is somewhat compelling.
I am pretty certain you do not need to read it. I can tell you the ending when I get there, if you like.

It does not look like a spooky Halloween in Calgary, but it is a pretty rainy and dark Halloween here!
I did miss you! While I am not too lazy to blog, I have been very busy with packing and moving, and furniture shopping and painting, and making home decor and reno decisions. Maybe this blog can feature
some of my projects as they develop!
I have been so busy, in fact, that I got Jian Ghomeshi’s book out from the library, and it sat on my new (and beautiful) kitchen counter for three weeks before it was due to be returned without me having even looked at it! And, it’s a bestseller! How sad.
I guess I’ll have to read this book instead:
Hmm. Somehow I think Arnold is better in TV interviews than in print. We shall see.

Hello Miss Giggles!
Have you missed me? Sometimes I am too lazy to blog.
While you have been busy painting your new condo, I have been looking for delicious meals to make. Tonight I made stuffed peppers.
The peppers were stuffed with arborio rice (which is the same rice you make risotto out of), mushrooms, tomatoes, green onions, and feta cheese. The feta cheese made them delicious. I used this recipe as a base, and made my own changes, like adding garlic, more cheese, and mushrooms.
I hope you are busy stocking your kitchen with cooking utensils for me to use when I visit!

Have you given any thought to your fall wardrobe? It is after Labour Day now, so buying new threads should be a pressing concern. No matter how much shopping you do, though, I bet you are not going to look as cute as my new friend Hannah wearing the sweater I knit her!
I think she looks adorable! Her mother has told me it is her favourite sweater, so I’m pretty sure Hannah is a smart baby, as well as a good-looking one.
Remember to pick up a gift for me when you hit the malls!
